BARONG DANCE is a traditional Balinese dance performance that tells the story of an endless battle where the fight between Barong who represents the good character and Rangda who represents the evil character, where in this story the barong wins the battle. A dance performance that is full of meaning and inspires our lives where we are taught to behave well to fellow human beings in order to create harmony in living this life. Barong is a character in the mythology of Bali. He is the king of the spirits, leader of the hosts of good, and enemy of Rangda in the mythological traditions of Bali. Banas Pati Rajah is the fourth brotheror spirit child that accompanies a child throughout life. Banas Pati Rajah is the spirit which animates Barong. A protector spirit, he is often represented by a lion, and traditional performances of his struggles against Rangda are popular parts of Balinese culture. Dance Story of Barong and Kris Dance

The fight between Barong and Rangda is also the topic of traditional narratives, usually performed in the temple of the dead. The most famous is the story of Calonarang, a widow from Jirah who is furious because she cannot find a suitable husband for her daughter Ratna Manggali. All the eligible young men are scared of her black magic, so she gets revenge by wreaking havoc over the kingdom of Daha. The king, Erlangga, tries to punish her, but all his attempts fail. She kills all the soldiers he sends to destroy her. Then Rangda decides to destroy Daha. She summons all her disciples and in the still of night they go to the Setra Gendrainayu cemetery, to present offerings of dead flesh to Durga, the goddess of death. Durga agrees to the destruction, although she warns the witch not to enter the city of Daha. But the witch does not heed Durga’s advice and the kingdom is soon hit by grubug (a plague) and the villages quickly become cemeteries, people dying even before they can bury their dead.

Corpses are scattered everywhere and the stench is unbearable.The only person who can defeat the witch is Mpu Bharadah. At the king’s request, Bharadah sends his disciple Bahula to steal Calonarang’s magic weapon.images/banaspati.jpg>Bahula pretends to ask for Ratna Manggali’s hand in marriage, and while the witch is away, Bahula steals the magic weapon with the help of Ratna Manggali. Then he gives the stolen weapon to his teacher Bharadah. The weapon turns out to be a manuscript containing the key to ultimate release (mokswhich has been used upside-down by Calonarang. Bharadah goes to Daha to challenge the witch. With the help of the Barong, she is defeated. Before being killed, she asks to be released from her curse and purified. The story goes that Rangda, the mother of Erlangga, the King of Bali in the tenth century, was condemned by Erlangga’s father because she practiced black magic. After she became a widow, she summoned all the evil spirits in the jungle, the leaks and the demons, to come after Erlangga. A fight occurred, but she and her black magic troops were too strong that Erlangga had to ask for the help of Barong. Barong came with Erlangga’s soldiers, and fight ensued. Rangda casted a spell that made Erlangga soldiers all wanted to kill themselves, pointing their poisoned keris into their own stomachs and chests. Barong casted a spell that turned their body resistant to the sharp keris. At the end, Barong won, and Rangda ran away.

History of Coffee Luwak

Coffee Luwak has a unique history behind the legend. In the early 18th century the Dutch established coffee plantations on the volcanic islands of the Dutch East Indies. This Coffee Luwak Arabica coffee hails from the mystical island of Bali. During the early years Dutch Coffee Plantation owners forbade the local natives from harvesting and brewing the coffee beans for their own consumption. The indigenous people, being resourceful, soon discovered that the asian palm civet, favored eating coffee beans. These Luwak beans were collected, washed, sun dried and then roasted to produce a coffee with a deep richness, minus the acidity. The process of the bean passing through the digestive tract of the civet chemically alters the proteins in the Coffee Luwak bean to yield more complex and smooth flavors, not found in conventional coffees. Since then civet coffee has not been very booming as it is now, the beginning of the civet coffee boom around 2011 – 2012 where there is only one place, and since then many guests have been there and from word of mouth and social media, this coffee plantation has become very famous, and entrepreneurs seize this opportunity and start many coffee plantations along the strategic route passed by tourists

Process Making Coffee Luwak

As for the process of making the famous Luwak coffee in Bali, most of it is still done traditionally. First the coffee ore is harvested from the coffee plant and then the newly harvested coffee ore will be served to the civet animals. Where the civet animals are fed cofffe ore, from the civet animal droppings coffee ore is taken and then cleaned and dried by drying in the hot sun. After drying, the ore is stir-fried until cooked in the prepared frying pan, until this process has a distinctive smell of the famous Luwak coffee on the island of Bali. After that, the roasted coffee beans will be ground into a fine powder like coffee powder. And after that the civet coffee powder will be wrapped and ready to be sold to buyers.
